Ubon Ratchathani Hotels
Ubon Ratchathani is situated 629 km from Bangkok and has many attractions to offer. It is a melting pot of tradition and culture and this can be experienced during their annual candle procession held in July at Thung Si Muang.
One of the must see places is the district of Khong Chiam that overlooks the Mekhong River. It is at a distance of 80km from Ubon Ratchathani. You will have to hire a boat to visit and move around the various places of interest in and around Khong Chiam like the Kaeng Tana cataract and the meeting point of the Mekhong and Mun Rivers. If you are historically inclined then the Wat Thung Si Muang is a place that will interest you because of its traditional wooden Ho Trai scripture repository. The repository is carved in gable and located in the center of a pond. You can visit the monastic hall in Wat Thung Si Mung where you will get a glimpse of some of the ancient mural paintings from Buddhist literature.
Another popular place and local attraction is the Kaeng Tana National Park. It is near the Sirindhorn Dam and offers a lot of adventures including traversing the Kaeng Tana rapid. The Kaeng Tana rapid is a class IV rapid on the Mun River. The park is nature’s beauty at its best with numerous waterfalls, rapids, and thick vegetation. A swimming area has been created from the Tat Ton brook and it is surrounded on all sides by a deep forest.
