Rayong is situated 190km from Bangkok and 70km from Pattaya. It is famous for producing fine qualities of fruits like durian and pineapple. Rayong even has its own local fruit fair. To travel to Rayong, you can board a bus from the Ekami Bus Terminal of fly in from Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket to U-Tapao Airport, which is 30 minutes away from Rayong. The best part of Rayong is the local seafood, which is delicious, mouth watering and simple exotic. There are some fine beaches around the coast like the Suan Son, Ban Phe, and Suan Wang Kaew.
But the greatest attraction of Rayong is Koh Samet, which is no less than any tropical paradise. You can enjoy the pleasant wind that blows from the sea while lying in the leafy shade on powder white beaches and watch the magical dancing of the waves created in the turquoise waters of the sea. If the beaches are too crowded then you can head straight for the national marine park. Although accommodation is quite tough to find in the peak season, you also have the option of renting houses or pitching tents in the heart of the Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park. You can share your dreams with the forest, the cliffs, the waterfalls and the caves.
If you have had your fill of Koh Samet although it is impossibility, you can visit Koh Samed Ban Phe located just 22 km away. It is a busy fishing port, a great place to find marine souvenirs.
