Phitsanulok Hotels
One of the oldest cities in Thailand, Phitsanulok was founded over 600 years ago. The city has a wonderful and glorious past. Famous for being the birthplace of King Naresuan, who fought the Burmese army to free Thailand in the late 16th century, and King Ekathosarot (Sanpet III), his brother and successor, Phitsanulok has long been an important city both for political and strategic reasons, as it plays the role of a bridge between the northern and central regions of the country.
The Phitsanulok city spans the banks of the Nan River, while the Kwae Noi running across the city. Perhaps this is the reason why the local call it the ‘Song Kwae City’ (meaning city of two rivers). With a flat terrain, Phitsanulok is endowed with mountain ranges on the north and east, while waterfalls and natural parks add to the allure of the city completing the picture.
Indisputably an important center and ideal base for visitors, Phitsanulok is a good base for exploring the lower North and Northeastern regions of Thailand. Slowly, tourism is becoming a popular tourist destination, as many tourists are realizing the wealth of history, culture, and nature in this city. Where else can one be transported back in time to over 2000-4000 years and explore the remnants of the ancient communities and civilizations? Or where will one get to see so many amazing architectural marvels in the form of wats or traditional Thai temples? Worth visiting are the Pra Buddha Jinaraj (Chinarat) image at Wat Mahathat, an outstanding mythical museum, a Buddha factory, and night markets and the floating restaurants on the Nan River.
