Nongkhai Hotels
Nongkhai is situated right on the banks of the famous Mekong River and is around 630 km from Bangkok. If you cross the river to the other side then you will reach the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos. Nongkhai is considered to be a good base for exploring Isaan, which is the North-Eastern region of Thailand. There is a friendship bridge in Isaan from where you can cross the borders over to Laos. Nongkhai has some spectacular views to offer and the scenery will hold your attention especially with the meandering Mekong River. Another place from where you can cross over to Laos is Tha Sadet, which is basically a pier. You can jump on to a ferry and move across the Mekong River to Tha Dua in Laos. You will need an entry Visa prior to traveling to Tha Sadet, which is a shopping hub.
Close but outside the town of NongKhai is the Hindu Buddhist sculpture park of Wat Khaek. Considered as a peaceful place, you will find many Buddhist monks and even ordinary people practicing meditation here. The towns of Nam Tok Than Thip and Nam Tok Than Thong are 110 km and 85 km away from Nongkhai and is situated along the Nong Khai-Si Chiang Mai- Sangkhom route. The route is spectacular especially where it hugs the Mekong River. Closer to Nam Tok Than Thong is a waterfall that flows right into the Mekong River although you will find some bigger waterfalls in Nam Tok Than Thip especially during the rainy season.
