Nakorn Si Thammarat province provides a bird’s eye view of the rich culture and traditions of Thailand. Nakorn Si Thammarat was actually inhabited almost 2000 years back and became famous as a port in the ancient times. For more of a historical and cultural past, you can visit the Nakorn Si Thammarat National Museum. One of the interesting artifacts here is the 7th century Mon inscriptions, which were taken from Wat Phra Mahathat, and some ceramic artifacts that belong to the Chinese Tang Dynasty (518 - 907 AD) and the Song Dynasty (960 - 1274 AD). The admission fee is 30 Baht for tourists or non-Thai citizens. This museum is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Wednesdays to Sundays.
You can also visit Wat Phra Mahathat, which is famous for the Phra Mahathat Woramaha Wiharn temple and this temple is considered to be one of the most important and oldest Buddhist temples in entire Thailand. Its importance is highlighted because it is one of the only six royal temples in the country. Its exact date of origin is not completely known but people guess that it is almost six hundred years old.
