Mae Hong Son Hotels
Nestled in a very deep valley, Mae Hong Son is surrounded by high mountain ranges that are thickly forested and insulate the city from the outside world. Hidden by mist, almost throughout the year, Mae Hong Son has also been dubbed ‘the City of Three Mists’ owing allegiance to the fact that it three different types of mist covering it through the year - forest fire mist in summer, rainy mist in the monsoon, and dewy mist in the winter.
Located in extreme corner of Northern Thailand, Mae Hong Son is a bordering city to Burma. With charming mountain, natural scenery, and diverse cultural riches Mae Hong Son’s main tribe, the Shans and the other hill tribe communities, still live in the many tiny remote villages that dot the mountain tops, proud in their defiance of the changes that time has brought about.
Mae Hong Son is richly endowed with remnants of ancient architecture in the form of Wats or traditional Thai temples. Some of the ‘must see’ wats include Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu that dates to as far back as 1860, is perched on a hill in the town’s west and is now a major landmark; Wat Phra Non at the foot of the Doi Kong Mu was built in 1875 and has two large sculpted lions lying side by side; Wat Kam Ko built in 1890 located opposite Wat Phra Non has the entrance arch made in Burmese-style Wihan, and Wat Hua Wiang or Wat Klang Muang built in 1863 is situated on the Sihanat Bamrung Road, next to the colorful Morning Market.
