Lamphun Hotels
According to a legend, Lamphun is actually a 1,400 year old town, which was earlier known as Hariphunchai. The first ruler of this town was Queen Chamthewi from the Mon Dynasty. Lamphun today has this intoxicating mix of the ancient, traditional and modern. Situated at a distance of 670 km from Bangkok, it is only 26 km from Chiang Mai. It is situated on the banks of the Kuang River, and it has varied landscape that includes beautiful and virgin forests, mountains and lakes. Lamphun is considered to be the famous producer of longans. The most famous area of Longan orchards is The Ban Nong Chang Khun. Even when traveling down to this town, you will find orchards or longan on both sides of the road. They bear fruit between July and August.
The largest temple in the Lamphun district is the Wat Phra Bat Huai Tom. The temple style boasts of a large Lanna-style Chedi and the place of worship is built completely in laterite. It is said to have been built by the Karens who lived in the vicinity and admired the revered Phra Kru Ba Chaiwongsa. One of the most popular places to see or visit is the Mae Ping National Park. The Ping River flows right through the heart of the Park. There is fertile forest area on either banks of the river and supports plant life and animals. Some parts of the river also create rapids and even small islands. There is another hidden attraction within the park and this is the 7-level Ko Luang Waterfall.
