Lampang Hotels
Lampang is famous for its horse-drawn carriages and even has the logo depicting a horse carriage as its official symbol. Boasting of a long history of continuous human settlement along the Wang River basin, Lampang has a history which is more than a 1000 years old.
Lampang is also rich in architectural wealth with monuments reflecting styles of various ancient civilisations such as Hariphunchai, Burmese, and Lanna. Another famous place in Lampang is the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre.
The ancient city of Lampang lies 100 kilometres from Chiang Mai, a very popular tourist destination in Thailand. The city founded in the seventh century by Queen Chama Devi’s son, it was fortified with walls only in the 19th century. Until some years ago, it was a flourishing teak wood centre.
Fortunately, the ravages of time and modernisation have not really affected many of the city’s temples and most of them with their original stone work decorations. Due to Lampang being under Burmese occupation for almost 200 years, the architecture here is reflective of this influence.
The usual tourist sights include the Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat Chedi Sao. The Ban Nak, a large mansion made of wood is a popular place for tourist and is close to Wat Phra Kaeo.
Easily accessible from Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Lampang is well connected by road. Lampang also has many small tourist and budget hotels. While in Lampang, tourists must experience the trademark horse-driven carriage ride at least once.
