Khao Sok (Surat Thani) Hotels
Imagine huge limestone mountains reaching high as if trying to touch the sky, deep fertile valleys, sparkling and clear lakes, interesting and adventurous caves, wild and freely roaming animals, unique species of flora and fauna and lots more. Now think about Khao Sok National Park.
The Khao Sok National Park is an amazing place. Located in Surat Thani province in Southern Thailand, Khao Sok is spread in 739 square kilometres of land and includes the 94m high Ratchaprapha Dam, which was built in 1982, on the Khlong Saeng River (tributary of the Phum Duang River).
The Khao Sok National Park encompasses the single largest verdant rainforest in Thailand and the oldest in the world. This lush evergreen rainforest reminds one of a forest that is older and more bio-diverse than the mighty Amazon Rainforest of Brazil!
But perhaps what makes Khao Sok most popular is the Bua Phut flower (Rafflesia Kerrii) that grows abundantly within the huge expanses of this natural reserve. The park also has a wide variety of animals including the peculiar barking deer, banteng, bear, porcupine, wild boar and gibbon.
The national reserve is the wettest region in entire Thailand. December to early February is the driest period with very little or zero rainfall.
Khao Sok is a superb place to enjoy trekking, canoeing, keep safaris, elephant safaris and many other outdoor activities that leave an indelible mark on every traveller’s memory. Ideally situated between Krabi, Khao Lak, Koh Samui and Phuket, Khao Sok remains the most popular destination in Southern Thailand.
Khao Sok – Natural treasure trove of bio-diversity!
