Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and it is situated along the Java coast. Spread over an area of 661.52 sq km, Jakarta has a population of 8,792,000 according to a 2004 census. Jakarta was born 500 years back and is a metropolis with sound infrastructure. The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta is connected to almost all the major cities in the world and other Indonesian islands. There is plenty to see in Jakarta and one of the popular spots is the Jaya Ancol Dreamland. It is a recreational park built on beach land close to the Bay of Jakarta. The dreamland consists of swimming pools, freshwater aquariums, artificially created lagoon for game fishing, bowling, nightclubs, boating, restaurants, and massage parlors.
The National Monument also known as Monas stands for the fight for Independence. It is 137m tall and the top part looks like a flame and is coated with 35kg of gold. There is a museum and a meditation hall at the base of this monument. From the top of the monument, you can see the entire city and the sea. Another popular spot is the Miniature Park, which showcases the diversity of Indonesia with all its islands as it is. An interesting place, there is an orchin garden with hundreds of varieties and a bird park. The Pulau Seibu is a group of islands situated far from the madding crowd and the stress of the city. It is a popular tourist destination that offers coconut palm fringed golden sand beaches and the sea offers multi-colored corals apart from the rich marine life.
